Itanagar, Oct 8: It is weather again which came as an impediment for the Congress party in Arunachal ahead of the assembly polls.
The haze in the mountains forced party chief Sonia Gandhi to cancel her visit to the state this morning, much to the disappointment of the public as well as party leaders.
The UPA chairperson was scheduled to address two election rallies at Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district and Aalo in West Siang district.
On Tuesday, AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi had to cancel his trip to Itanagar due to bad weather. Rahul had waited at Lilabari airport in Assam’s Lakhimpur district for nearly two hours before leaving for Agartala.

Political observers here were of the opinion that cancellation of Sonia's and Rahul’s visit to the state could affect the party’s electoral prospects. However, both Tuki and Khandu ruled out such a possibility saying the people’s mandate will be in favour of the Congress, ''which will form the next government with absolute majority''.
The chief minister also refuted allegations that a few candidates of other parties were being backed by him.

During election time, it is not only the cash rich parties that hop across the length and breadth of the state on helicopters. For the Election Commission, it’s the most prepared mode of transportation in many inaccessible districts.
This time however, the weather dependent choppers have not been able to take off on time due to inclement weather. In Dibang Valley, one the most inaccessible districts, Poll Personnel started their five days trek to reach the polling stations.

Papum Pare takes measures to tackle bogus voting
ITANAGAR: The District Election Officer Papum Pare along with Police is taking all possible measures to check voting by alleged bogus voters from Assam in the district. The DEO Papumpare has received complaints that names of many voters, not residing at Itanagar or Naharlgun but in Assam, have been included in Electoral Roll of the District. Taking cognizance of the complaints, the DEO Papumpare has taken number of steps in this direction.
Intensive checking of passengers in the entry check posts has been ordered with immediate effect to detect any such bogus voters. On the day of Poll, the border check gates with Assam will be sealed at Hollongi, Banderdewa,
Gumto and Kimin. No vehicles from Assam or Arunachal will be allowed to enter or move out of the state till the end of poll in the evening. Movement of any kind of private vehicles including mini buses and taxis will be restricted on the day so that such bogus voters cannot enter Papum Pare district or are transported to the Polling Stations.
Block level officers, who are the custodians of photo electoral rolls, will be deployed in the Polling Stations, against which such complaints have been received. If any such bogus voters are nabbed in the Polling Station on the day poll, they will be he will be arrested and criminal cases registered against them for fraudulently enrolling their names in Papum Pare district.
Bidol Tayeng, the District Election Officer Papum Pare has also written to DC Sonitpur and DC North Lakhimpur for impressing upon the people living along the Arunachal border not to enter Papum Pare district on the day of Poll at the behest of local leaders to cast votes in Papum Pare.

ITANAGAR, Oct 08: The security forces have come down heavily on ultras in Tirap district and foiled their reported plan to disrupt the assembly election due on Oct 13 next.
In order to ensure free and fair elections in Tirap, a synergized effort by the Security forces including paramilitary forces and State Police was launched two weeks prior to the actual polling. This effort got a boost by nabbing one Jupha Sungam an active cadre of NSCN (IM) in Zedua village during search operations.

According to information received, joint operation was launched from Khonsa on the morning of Oct 5. In the operation, a party of 130 personnel including Officers and troops of 19 Assam Rifles, Police and CRPF carried out search of Bera, Kapo and Tissa villages. During the search, it was revealed that cadres of NSCN (IM) have moved towards general area Senua and Zedua in Longding circle.
Subsequently, a party comprising of 25 personnel from Longding Company of 19 Assam Rifles launched immediately to Zedua village to carry out specific search. During the search operation, the NSCN (IM) cadre was apprehended.
On detailed interrogation, the apprehended cadre revealed that on the morning of 5th Oct, the cadre met Panthai (Town commander of NSCN (IM), Longding) and was handed over a Pistol by him.
Later, the self styled town commander moved to carry out extortion in the area. Interrogation also revealed that the NSCN factions are trying to influence the out come of Assembly elections. However, because of proactive approach of security forces and district administration the UGs have not been able to directly pressurize the villagers and are trying to call chieftains and GB’s to their hideouts. Member from Hong farmer club and other interested farmers of area turned up for the program. Dr. M.C. Changlang, Oct 8: The 25 Assam Rifles under DAH Division conducted the third Basic Computer Training Course for six weeks in Changlang.
The course was completed yesterday for 21 local boys and girls of Changlang. Most of them are from lower economic strata and hence had taken advantage of this free of cost training actively.
The parents of these children expressed their profound gratitude to 25 Assam Rifles and whole heartedly appreciated the active and selfless efforts of 25 Assam Rifles, training team and troops of DAH Division.
Colonel H B Gramopadhye, SM, Commandant, 25 Assam Rifles gave away the prizes and certificates to the successful candidates. Tawang puts ban on hunting & deforestation
Tawang: District Magistrate Gamli Padu has banned felling of trees in any manner and for whatsoever purpose without clearance from the competent authority of Environment and Forest, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh in pursuant to the directives of honourable Apex Court.
The ban has also extended on the practice of traditional and conventional hunting of any wild animal by any means or in any form whatsoever in the district. Anyone found violating the order shall entail serious consequences with penal action as per provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.
"Such indiscriminate felling of trees and elimination of wild fauna from their natural habitat is not only illegal but it would also cause serious hazard to the ecology and environment", he said.

ITANAGAR, Oct 08: Appreciating the Itanagar police team for their prompt action, the aggrieved family members of the late Koj Gambo have appealed to the city deputy commissioner not to allow the criminals out on bail. Gambo was reportedly murdered by three miscreants on Aug 20 last. They said that the murderers of Gambo should be awarded death sentence and justice be given to innocent and aggrieved family.

Tricks at Petrol pumps
Madam,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to caution everyone about the cheating that is going on in the petrol pumps.
As soon as car approach petrol pumps for fuel, the pump operator runs to get the key from the car driver to open the petrol tank and the car driver sits in his seat without any idea whether the operator starts at “Zero meter reading” or not. It is seen that quite often the operators take advantage of the carelessness of these people.
I wonder as to why they do not look at the meter before filling. Is it because that they have enough money to let anyone cheat them or they are unaware that such cheating is possible?
I am sure such cheatings are going on without the knowledge of the petrol pump owners. Apart from asking the car owners to be careful to look at the meter to ensure “Zero meter reading” before filling, I humbly request the petrol pump owners to remove any operator involved in such practices.
